Banpu plans to ship 2 mln T coal to China in 09

Banpu, Thailand’s largest coal miner, plans to increase coal shipments to China by 30 percent to 2 million tons in 2009. Even with the increase, however, the shipment would still be lower than the level in 2007, when volumes sent to China totaled nearly 3 million tons. China’s coal imports soared to record high in March at 5.72 million tons since international prices have dropped due to the global economic downturn. – posted by Catherine Gao
