Chinese Major General Quan Lihua, hinted in a published interview with The Financial Times of London on Monday that China may add an aircraft carrier to its navy, a move that would surely create tensions with the United States military and its allies in Asia. Although the general, also a senior official in the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, did not say whether China was in fact building a carrier, he mentioned that it was a dream of any great military power to have one. The United States, he said, should not feel threatened if China does acquire one for defensive purposes since the carrier would not be used with aggressive intent. ---posted by Ying Jia Huang
