Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan and Deputy Naval Chief Su Zhiqian will visit Nepal and Sri Lanka, trips that could ultimately upset neighboring India. As China continues to develop ties with countries in its One Belt One Road initiative, India has been increasingly nervous about China’s strategic ambitions within its periphery. In Nepal, a buffer state between China and India, the Chinese are hoping to increase their influence and will be participating in their first joint exercise with Nepal in 2017. China has also enhanced its level of engagement with Sri Lanka by funding airports, roads and ports. (Posted by Alexis Dale-Huang)
