Americans Believe Close US-China Ties Good for Them: Poll

According to a recent poll by Gallup-China Daily USA, Americans have conflicting opinions about China and its relations with the U.S. While eight in ten Americans view a close US-China relationship as beneficial for the U.S., six in ten believe China’s increasing global influence has negative repercussions for the U.S. The poll also examined barriers to strong US-China ties, such as China’s growing military strength, trade imbalances, and a lack of trust. The poll surveyed US opinion leaders as well and found they were less likely than the general American population to consider cultural misunderstandings a major barrier. –Kimberly Dimicco
